To mark the occasion we attended a launch event at The Barbican centre where we enjoyed delicious floral themed cocktails and heard from the incredible Visual Arts team as well as the captivating artist himself.
Embroidered onto the cloth are approximately 100 ‘batakaris’ – robes worn by Northern Ghanaian royals and ordinary people – which Mahama has collected through a process of exchange from numerous communities across Northern Ghana.
Don’t miss the film on the ground floor hub that weaves the story of the fabric, the assembly and the installation taking us from an athletics stadium in Ghana to watching skilled riggers and fabricators at work in the UK.
