ðē What does the City look like from someone else’s perspective? ðĪ
That was the question at the heart of Exchanging Places, a fantastic road safety event led by City of London Police, bringing together residents, cyclists and partners to encourage safer cycling and greater understanding between everyone who shares our streets.
Culture Mile BID was proud to support the event alongside Speedy Hire, Bikeworks CIC, Age UK, the National Federation of the Blind, Guide Dogs for the Blind, the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust’s Cycle Response Unit, Lime Bike and local elected members.
ð Held near Lauderdale Tower, the event gave cyclists the opportunity to experience the view from an HGV cab, hear directly from visually impaired residents about the challenges they face, receive free bike maintenance and security marking, and pick up cycling advice, helmets and a few well-earned Culture Mile goodies. ðŠðī
ð The day had a real impact:
ðđ 178 cyclists engaged
ðđ 30+ local residents attended
ðđ 30 people experienced the HGV blind spot demonstration
ðđ 20 conversations with the National Federation of the Blind volunteers
ðđ 17 bikes and 23 phones security marked
ðđ 30 Lime helmets given away
ðŪââïļ Alongside education and engagement, City of London Police also took enforcement action where needed, issuing fixed penalties and seizing two illegally modified high-powered bikes, reinforcing the message that safer streets require both awareness and accountability.
