Seeds in the City design competition launches at St. Giles Terrace

🤝 Culture Mile BID has partnered with the London Festival of Architecture (LFA) to launch Seeds in the City, a new design competition inviting emerging designers to create a temporary community pavilion on St. Giles Terrace in the Barbican Estate.

⚪ Forming part of LFA 2026, the competition calls on architects, landscape architects, designers and artists to propose an experimental pavilion that supports food growing, sustainability, learning and community wellbeing. Located beside the City of London Girls’ School and St. Giles Cripplegate Church, the pavilion will build on the school’s urban farming initiative and host a programme of talks, workshops and educational activities throughout June 2026.

📈 The project aligns with Culture Mile BID’s wider greening programme and Public Realm Vision and Strategy, which identifies St. Giles Terrace as a priority location for adaptable greening, community activation and dwell space. Designers are encouraged to treat the pavilion as a testing ground for sustainable, low-impact construction and inclusive public space.

🏆 The commission will be awarded through a two-stage competition, submissions for the first stage close at midday on Thursday 22 January.
