👨🦽 Culture Mile Champions Accessible Sport with Paralympians in the City 🏀
We were delighted to welcome BBC London to Guildhall Yard this week for a live broadcast of our fantastic wheelchair basketball exhibition match, featuring the London Titans Wheelchair Basketball Club and Paralympians Matt Sealy and Amy Conroy. The high-energy game wowed audiences in the historic setting, showcasing the very best of inclusive sport in the heart of the City.
⚪ The event formed part of the London Sports Festival, delivered in partnership with the Central London Alliance and supported by the City of London Corporation. Over two weeks, the festival has celebrated the joy of sport with a special focus on accessibility and inclusivity. Highlights have included blind football sessions with pro players in partnership with the Fulham FC Foundation, alongside wheelchair basketball sessions with the Sparrows WBC and Whizz Kidz, giving Londoners of all abilities the chance to get involved.
🙌 Hosting these events in Guildhall Yard has been particularly inspiring. Once the site of a Roman amphitheatre, it provided a fitting stage for today’s sporting stars and the public to continue a tradition of athletic spectacle stretching back thousands of years – a full circle moment that connects the City’s past with its present.
📈 This programme is part of Culture Mile’s wider mission to make culture more accessible, inclusive and engaging. Earlier this year, research from Centre for London revealed that many Londoners feel disconnected from the capital’s cultural offer. By bringing vibrant, interactive experiences into the open air and beyond traditional venues, Culture Mile is helping to break down barriers, reach new audiences, and create opportunities for everyone to take part in cultural life.
