A hands-on lunchtime workshop exploring the stories, structures and creatures channeling relationships with water. What can a gargoyle tell us about water? What can the histories of St. Giles Church tell us about our relationship with water?
⚪ Join TUFF and architectural ceramicist Charlotte Moore for a hands-on workshop exploring the relationship between architecture, water and folklore. Drawing on English stories and traditions surrounding wells, rivers, floods and drought, we’ll explore the many ways people have historically understood, managed and lived with water.
By modelling gargoyles— that connect the rain to the ground through figurative detailing, we’ll consider how architecture has been designed to collect, divert and control water.
You’ll then have the opportunity to model your own clay gargoyle, creating a decorative face or creature that pours water through its eyes or mouth, inspired by local water stories and the wet environments around us.
The workshop will be accompanied by a light refreshment of water mint tea.
